There are a few problems with your assumptions. You say that the LDS in the future could be sued by same sex (SS used throughout) married couples to be allowed temple marriage. That is not true a religion can be as exclusionary as they want to be when it comes to their ceremonies. They will have to legally recognize those marriages but will still be able to keep them SS couples barred from a temple marriage. It has no effect on what they would have to do.

The issue would come that as more people begin to accept SS marriages they will get pressure from SS and traditional couples to allow SS temple sealing.

The real reason they are fighting this in my opinion is that once Sam sex marriage is legally recognized other forms of marriage will have to be looked at as well. Eventually polygamist marriages will be recognized leaving them in a difficult position. Polygamy was halted because they were honoring the laws of the land. Once it is legal the issue would divide the church. Some would say it needs to be reestablished while many still abhor the practice.

This likely will cause a division within the church and cause the leadership major problems.Robot Devilhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06515029480824488720noreply@blogger.com
